Title: My Happy Kid
Type: Online course and face-to-face
Responsibility: Joy Rosario
Client: Primary Immunodeficiency Network of South Africa
Year: December 2015
Target audience: Families managing a chronic illness
Tools used: Articulate Storyline, MS PowerPoint
Overview: This six week course was developed as a gratis project for the parents and families of PiNSA, the Primary immunodeficiency Network of South Africa. The purpose was to enable the target audience to better manage the ‘unwelcome guest’ i.e. chronic illness into their homes and assist in normalising a situation to the benefit of all including the ill child. It is therefore an online family intervention focusing on the psychosocial element of dealing with chronic illness.
Solution: The course itself consists of fifteen separate activities and includes relevant resources, quizzes and interactive games. The look and feel is Pop Art in order to have an accessible interface appealing to all age groups. The approach was from the perspective of self as an entity then radiating outward to family, friends, school, the medical field and society in general. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is a key component of the course.
Personal experience:
The subject matter is relevant to me personally as I have a chronically ill child, now adult in the family. Many of the activities speak to our direct experience of managing relationships under the circumstances.
